It’s in fleets’ best interest to consistently reassess their operations to reduce collisions, improve Compliance, Safety, Accountability (CSA) scores, and ensure their drivers and assets make it back to home base safely and in the same condition as when they left.
Many of the safest fleets rely on technology to track critical driving events, incentivize safe driving, and ultimately protect their drivers and equipment. In this edition of Product Spotlight, FleetOwner highlights a handful of top safety systems and advancements available in the market today.
The Phillips Connect SmartLock Gladhand is a new safety technology that provides an added layer of security to trailers. One of the key features of this system is its ability to red tag a unit for needed repair, which is an important aspect of ensuring the safety of the trailer and the cargo it carries. This system is designed to make trailers available only to authorized users, which helps to prevent theft and unauthorized access to valuable shipments. Another benefit of the Phillips Connect SmartLock Gladhand is its resistance to attempts to force open the lock. This feature ensures that the trailer remains secure even in the event of an attempted break-in. The system also boasts a long battery life, which helps to reduce the need for frequent battery replacements and ensures that the lock remains operational for extended periods of time. The Phillips Connect SmartLock Gladhand is designed to work on red (emergency) removing all use of asset or blue (airline) removing the ability to leave the yard. The system can be controlled through a mobile app, which makes it easy to manage and monitor. Moreover, the system does not require Phillips Connect telematics and can function as a stand-alone system. However, when paired with Phillips Connect, the system can be used to lock and unlock trailers remotely, set behavior by geofence, and provide additional layers of security.
